Easter Egg Hunt

In 1998 Governor and Mrs. Mike Foster established an annual Easter Egg Hunt for the children of the staff and family. (This was a take off from the Easter Egg roll at the White House.) It was a tremendous success and has been repeated each year since 1998. Since that time the Governor and Mrs. Foster have reached out to underprivileged children for this event as well. There are horses for the kids to ride, slides, trains, Easter bunnies in costume to take pictures as well as many other activities. It is a wonderful circus atmosphere event and is enjoyed by all. Please see the photographs in the 2004 Easter events photo gallery

Christmas at the Mansion

There is much activity around the Governor’s Mansion at Christmas time. Friends and volunteers come in to decorate the Mansion with the help of the staff. It is always a beautiful site and different each year. Tours are given all year round, but it is never as exciting as at Christmas time. A tradition was begun under the Foster Administration of having a staff Christmas party at the Mansion each year. this tradition has been carried over into the Blanco administration. The annual Foundation Christmas party is also held at the Mansion each year. Photographs of the Mansion at Christmas of 2003.

Parish Ornament Event
In 1999 the Foundation Board decided they would like to see a Parish Ornament Christmas tree in the Mansion. After much discussion, it was decided that the Foundation would furnish the ornaments so that they would be uniform. They contacted each parish superintendent of schools and asked that they send two children of their choice to decorate an ornament reflecting something about their parish. This was such a tremendous success that it has continued annually. There are now four parish ornament trees in the Mansion at Christmas time. At other times of the year the ornaments are stored in a lovely curio cabinet for view during the public tours.

Legislative Ornaments

In 1998 the Legislators were contacted to help decorate the Christmas tree at the Mansion, since there were no existing decorations at the Mansion. The Foundation requested that they donate Christopher Radko ornaments for the tree. Many of the legislators did send ornaments and the tree was adorned with the ornaments from that time on. Each ornament has a tag on it stating the name of the donor. When they are not on the Christmas tree, they are displayed in a lovely curio cabinet with small plaques bearing the donor's name. This event continued for several years. The Foundation is hopeful that this tradition will continue under present and future administrations in order to fill the tree.
